FDA Antidepressant Warnings
Anti depressants are safe and effective. But some studies revealed that youngsters are susceptible to some troublesome side effects. Food and Drug Administration Studies of USA revealed that four percent of the younger population who are under the treatment of antidepressants either committed suicide or thought of committing suicide. Importantly, the same studies also revealed that among the the subjects who were given placebo (sugar pill) only two percent have shown such a trend.
Black Box warning: In the year 2005 FDA displayed a black box warning. What is Serotonin Syndrome ?
When antidepressants such as Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) and Serotonin-Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitor (SNRIs) are used along with commonly used drugs such as “triptan” they result in life threatening serotonin syndrome. While it is mostly common with traditional antidepressants its occurrence with the use of atypical antidepressants is not that uncommon.
